Like other health care providers, we operate under the provisions of the Healthcare Information Privacy and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
In general, release of patient health care information requires signed authorization by the patient or their legally authorized representative whenever that information is in a form that would uniquely identify the patient. Examples would include releasing information for legal or life insurance requests or to others not involved in patient care. Exceptions to that requirement may include release to other health care providers for consultation or transfer of service and law enforcement agencies under very specific conditions.
